Billy chose the photo for The Guardian's "Pictures with Meaning" feature, a photo entitled "Elvis Presley buys his lunch, Sheffield, Alabama July 4 1956" by Albert Wertheimer.
Billy wrote:
This picture was taken just before Elvis became one of the most recognisable faces on the planet. He stands unnoticed among the other passengers off the Memphis bound train. And while they busy themselves stocking up with cigarettes and candy, oblivious to the presence of the Boy King in their midst, Elvis stares into the camera, preternaturally aware that the forces he is about to unleash will change the world for ever. I got a sense from this picture that Elvis could see it all before him - the Beatles, Dylan, Hendrix, his own demise, in fact everything that had happened between the picture being taken and my coming across it in 1979.
